On the evening of September 23rd, Beijing Road, one of the 11 pedestrian streets in a national pilot renovation project, was officially opened in downtown Guangzhou. On the same day, GPHL’s Chenliji Medicine Factory located on No. 194 Beijing Road began its trial run. The opening ceremony live streamed and attracted nearly 510,000 viewers.

Chenliji Medicine Factory is the world's longest-lived medicine factory, a national intangible cultural heritage and the first Chenliji store since the founding of this time-honored brand. Chenliji was co-founded by Chen Tiquan and Li Shengzuo in 1600. In its 420th anniversary, Chenliji reproduced its first store on Beijing Road, a 1,000-year-old shopping street in Guangzhou.

Chenliji Medicine Factory (No. 194 Beijing Road)

In this trial run, six rooms are open on the first floors, such as GPHL’s time-honored brand and intangible cultural heritage exhibition room, Chenliji intangible cultural heritage studio, Chenliji dried tangerine peel (‘chenpi’) culture experience room, healthcare exhibition room and Wanglaoji herbal tea culture and brand exhibition room.

In the Chenliji intangible cultural heritage studio, people can experience 420-year-old Chenliji culture and crafts, such as ancient prescriptions, original wax-sealed pills and hundred-year-old chenpi. People can also see Chinese medicine tools and medicine processing vessels, learn medicine processing skills, watch a tea art performance, study traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture, and purchase TCM cultural products. People will have Chenliji intangible cultural heritage classes offered by intangible cultural heritage technicians in the studio. One-to-one classes are also available.
